Tips & strategy

  • Accuracy first โ€” one error costs more time than the keystroke you saved.
  • Keep your fingers on the home row and avoid looking down.
  • Read one or two words ahead of where you are typing.
  • Consistent rhythm produces higher WPM than bursts followed by corrections.

Frequently asked questions

How is WPM calculated?

A word is standardised as five characters. Net WPM counts only correctly typed characters, which is why it is lower than raw WPM.

What is a good typing speed?

Around 40 WPM is average, 60 to 80 is proficient, and above 100 is fast.

Can I choose the text?

Yes. You can pick between common-word drills, quotations and punctuation-heavy passages, and set the test to 15, 30 or 60 seconds.
